Of course he looks the spitting image of Gerry McCann - but I am afraid that won't really help. Weren't the e-fits produced well after the Smiths made their Statements identifying the man as McCann? The fact that they were almost 100% certain that the man was indeed Gerry McCann - and this identification is really what counts- may have prompted them to subconsciously merge the face they remember with the photos of McCann, which were after all well known by the time the e-fits were produced.
I do not want to discredit their statements, I just do not think that the e-fits can be used to prove anything, unfortunately.
I am not here to prove anything, but the fact that they were hidden for years and the Smith sighting was swept under the carptet for years although it is the only credible sighting at all and would have supported the abduction theory, is strong circumstantial evidence if you combine these facts with the Smiths statement.
I don't think that Martin and Mary Smith were the ones according to whom those e-fits were done, precisely for the reason you mention, Anonym. As well I don't think that they would have let their minor daughter be responsible for an e-fit. It seems more likely that the e-fits were done according to Peter and his wife memories. I agree with Johanna that the most remarkable point in here is the fact that the e-fits were hidden for so many years by the same people who pretended to search for their daughter. Moreover Smithman himself was ignored for quite a time, actually up to the point where hiding him would have looked too suspicious. He then became Tannerman, which was another way to hide him.

Demnach wird im Krematorium vor der Verbrennung der Sarg nochmals geöffnet und es findet eine letzte Leichenschau statt. So schlüssig sich Amarals Arbeitshypothese anhört- MC hatten wohl tatsächlich den Schlüsssel zur Kirche-, so ist es doch nicht möglich gewesen Maddie unbemerkt in einen aufgebahrten Sarg zu legen. Danke dir Josefine. Das lasse ich gerade nochmal in Portugal gegenchecken. Ich habe das auch eher als sehr weit hergeholte Möglichkeit angesehen. Ich finde generell die Diskussion in Portugal, sei es Hernani Carvalho oder auch einige Äußerungen von Goncalo Amaral ein wenig sehr auf Verschwörung getrimmt. Aber das ist die Stimmung dort, das ganze Land geht fest davon aus, dass es sich um eine Vertuschungsaktion durch Scotland Yard handelt.
Ich denke das ist die Perspektive der ewig Gescholtenen; ich als Außenstehende sehe das neutraler.

Habe mich jetzt auch sehr viel mit dem Fall befasst..für mich waren es ganz klar die eltern.nur frag ich mich wo ist die leiche.glaube das gerry sie in die vermisste Sporttasche getan, diese beschwert und anschließend im Meer versenkt hat. Gehst du auch davon aus?? Im Sarg verbrannt halte ich doch für sehr unwahrscheinlich
Meinem untenstehenden Kommentar will ich noch hinzufügen, dass es gar nicht so sehr um die Ähnlichkeit geht, sondern hauptsächlich um die Tatsache, dass die Bilder und die komplette Sichtung der Familie Smith, die der einzige handfeste Beweis für eine mögliche Entführung gewesen wäre, völlig unter den Teppich gekehrt wurden.

Ich kann mir nicht helfen. Entweder bin ich total blind oder dumm. Für mich hat das Fahndungsbild keinerlei Ähnlichkeit mit Gerry. Hm.
